The Epidemiology Unit of the Directorate General for Innovation and Public Health Management of the Xunta de Galicia, collaborated between 1992 and 2010 with the research group MODESTYA on biostatistics for the prediction and control of factors related to health and disease incidence. A new free software called  EPIDAT was developed; currently this is also supported by the Pan American Health Organization. This software allows multiple applications, including the development of indicators to assess the effectiveness of a diagnostic test or association studies for risk factor exposure and disease.
