The Spanish Mathematics Network (Math-in) recommended Pilar Salgado of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and Rafael Vázquez of the IMATI-CNR in Pavia (Italy), as candidates for the Felix Klein Prize 2012.
The nomination was motivated by their fruitful efforts in numerical simulation and mathematical analysis of industrial problems. Their research is in the field of numerical simulation of induction furnaces for the production of photovoltaic silicon. This research was carried out at the University of Santiago de Compostela and in collaboration with FerroAtlántica R & D, subdivision of the FerroAtlántica Research Group, a world leader in the production of silicon.
