Applied Mathematics Professor and ITMATI promoter, Juan Viaño, becomes the new Rector of the USC

Applied Mathematics Professor and promoter of ITMATI, Juan Viaño becomes on 9 June the new Rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), which he regards "as an institution with no money or hope".

In a ceremony held at the Noble Hall of Fonseca and chaired by the head of the Galician government, Alberto Nunez Feijoo, the new Rector of the USC has committed to renewing the academic institution and in particular to increase his efforts to attract external funds.

In his speech, the new Rector of the University of Santiago de Compsotela, Juan Viaño, has announced reforms in the academic structures and also in the management of the institution.

"The USC is an institution with no money or hope", he claimed but plead for "the recuperation of lost hope".

"The USC not only has financial problems but its reputation is beginning to totter", in words of the Rector.
