Initiated in Oxford in 1968, the Study Groups with Industry bring together industrial scientists and academic mathematicians to work on problems affecting the industry. These Study Groups represent an internationally recognized method for technology and knowledge transfer between academic institutions and industry.

The success of the ESGIs lies in its unique format, which has been reproduced throughout the world, in which the mathematical community gathers in working groups to deal with problems presented by the industry. These problems come from any economic sector thanks to the cross-cutting nature of the mathematics. ESGI’s objective is to present the capabilities of mathematics and its applicability in a large part of the challenges and needs of the industrial world, bringing to small, medium and large companies a technology with great potential, with highly qualified researchers and that does not require large investments to use.

GOALS:

• find solutions and bring new insights to existing industrial problems;
• establish lasting and productive working relations between mathematicians and industry;
• propose new lines of research based on business challenges;

• reinforce the importance of mathematics in industry and mathematical profiles companies; and

• stimulate greater awareness in community of the power of mathematics to provide solve real-world problems.
